Meta-backed firm accused of exploiting AI gig workers in data scraping practices

A company partially owned by Meta has been accused of recruiting tens of thousands of workers worldwide to scrape personal and copyrighted data for artificial intelligence training. The platform, called Outlier, is run by Scale AI, a firm with Pentagon contracts and a 49% stake held by Meta. Workers, dubbed 'taskers,' described combing through social media accounts, transcribing adult content, and harvesting images, often without users’ awareness. Despite promises of refining high-level AI syste
