Sweden revives retired naval intelligence ship for seabed warfare research

In a bold pivot, the Royal Swedish Navy has decided to resurrect its retired signals intelligence vessel, HSwMS Orion, for a new mission focused on underwater infrastructure security. After 39 years of service, the Orion had been decommissioned in November 2023 and replaced by its modern successor, the HSwMS Artemis. But rising threats to critical underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, including attacks on cables and pipelines, have prompted Sweden to recommission the aging vessel as a spe
